ALEKSANDRA BRANKOVIC

GDE ĆE TI DUŠA? / SOULSCAPE

10.06 - 30.06.23.

THE EXHIBITION

With her solo exhibition “Gde će ti duša?” (Soulscape), Aleksandra Brankovic came down from Rudnik mountain to Belgrade and presented to the public a series of works in which she explores the tensions within our public and private personas.

With the belief that we as humans are able to transcend everyday life in various ways, the artist tends to incorporate humour and various elements of popular culture into her paintings making them her own. As the most important part of her work, Alexandra has put an emphasis on research and the importance of the source of inspiration, the artist has the responsibility to be a broad-minded observer of the world.

In her work the artist often shows subjects in our everyday domestic spaces such as the dining room, bedroom or the kitchen. These interiors were chosen because they reflect strict and social rules and hierarchies of our society. “It was actually interesting to me that my artworks were placed in such a space because it is not pretentious, and it is easy to connect with that environment. Yet, I believe that within that space is where all the dramas of our lives unfold”.

Characters depicted in her works take on the images of idols, and with them transcending gender, the artist lets everyone find themselves within them. “Angelic, blending opposites of anima and animus in one. they celebrate humanity’s need for partnership with the divine”.

GDE ĆE TI DUŠA? / SOULSCAPE

The soul is deeply rooted in the essence of our being. It resides within us, in the depths of our mind and heart. Through various experiences and interactions, we nurture our soul and encourage it to grow and evolve. The soul is believed to come from higher realms of existence, transcending the boundaries of time and space. After leaving this physical world, the soul continues its celestial journey, traveling, onward. Although the nature of the soul is a mystery we cannot fully comprehend, its existence brings us hope and faith in something greater than ourselves.

With Aleksandra’s work, we want to talk about the soul. Where it resides, how it is nurtured, where it comes from, and where it goes.
